Alterations of Ldh and Its Isoenzyme Activity in Blood Plasma of Ewe Lambs after Exposure to Chlorine in Drinking Water
نویسنده
چکیده
The effects of high chlorine levels in drinking water upon the total activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and its isoenzymes (LDH1-LDH5) in the blood plasma before and after 30 days of exposure of two-month old Slovak merino lambs were investigated. Gaseous chlorine and Savo-Super were used to achieve an active chlorine level of 1.8 mg per liter of drinking water per animal and day. Water was replaced daily. After a six-fold increase of chlorine levels in the drinking water, significant differences in total LDH activity (μkat.l; P≤0.001), as well as in LDH2 and LDH5 isoenzyme activity (P<0.02 and P<0.05, resp.) were observed between the experimental and the control group of lambs. The activities of LDH4 isoenzyme did not change significantly between both tested groups in our experiments. LDH activity and its isoenzymes in the blood plasma of animals seem to be suitable biomarkers for ecotoxicological studies.

In this study 71 head of conceiving ewe and their progeny (91 head) from the flock of Lori-Bakhtiari sheep (360 head), in Sholi Station were randomly selected to determine the relationship between the immunoglobulin (IgG) concentration in the ewe's serum and colostrum, and lamb's serum. Ewe blood sample, colostrum of ewe and blood of the lamb was taken 2 weeks before parturition, 1 to 8 hours a...

Background: Cadmium (Cd) is an extremely toxic metal and environmental exposure to Cd has been particularly problematic in the world. Oral exposure to Cd may result in adverse effects on a number of tissues, the immune system, and the cardiovascular system. Compounds containing Cd are also carcinogenic. The presence of Cd in drinking water resources in the southeastern region of Rafsanjan plain...

The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of tail-docking on the LH pulse frequency in femaleTuj lambs. Twelve female lambs were assigned into two equal groups. A rubber ring was applied to the baseof the tail for shedding off. Blood samples were collected for 8 h in the 4th and 8th months of age todetermine pulsatile secretion of LH. Starting from the age of 6 months, blood samples we...

Background: Paraquat is a non-selective contact herbicide, widely used to control weeds in agriculture farms and aquatic plants in surface waters. Paraquat can have adverse effects on the health of aquatic organisms. The aim of this study was to detect the alterations in the blood biochemical parameters of common carp exposed to sub-lethal concentrations of commercial formulations of paraquat. ...
